After declaring a Premier League record revenue, Manchester City is prepared to take a tentative look into the transfer market and update Pep Guardiola’s aging team.
City announced their 2023–2024 title-winning campaign’s annual report on Friday afternoon, confirming a third year in a row of record-breaking sales.
The Premier League team reported £715 million in total revenue and £73.8 million in profits.
Additionally, the report shows that while commercial sales climbed somewhat from £341.4 million to £344.7 million, wages decreased by £10.3 million to £412.6 million.
City has now turned a profit each season since 2014–15, with the exception of the COVID-19 campaign.
After selling Liam Delap, Joao Cancelo, Julian Alvarez, and Taylor Harwood-Bellis, among others, City also reported a total profit of £92.8 million from transfer activity since the end of June.
The announcement follows the Telegraph’s suggestion that the club has a “firm acceptance” that they must make a purchase in January.
Since the defense, midfield, and attack all need “surgery,” the Citizens might actually add four to six players over the course of the next two windows, depending on sales.
According to the report, they are still having trouble without Rodri, and midfield is the main cause for concern.
Martín Zubimendi of Real Sociedad is mentioned as a potential target, although the Spaniard may have to wait until the summer because he has “reservations” about serving as Rodri’s backup after he returns.
Along with Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle and Adam Wharton, a midfielder for Crystal Palace, Ederson of Atalanta has also been mentioned.
A number of No. 10s are suggested in addition to a central midfielder. City is a fan of Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, who has also been scouted, Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen, and Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace.
Along with three defenders, Jarrad Branthwaite, Marc Guehi, and Alphonso Davies, Liam Delap has had a stellar start to his time at Ipswich Town since signing from City in the summer.
